Dutch company ChipSoft, which provides software for healthcare, experienced a ransomware attack, forcing them to shut down their website and online services for both patients and healthcare professionals.

ChipSoft is a major supplier of Electronic Health Record (EHR) software in the Netherlands. Their main product, HiX, is utilized by a significant number of Dutch hospitals.

Earlier in the week, Reddit users reported that the healthcare digital solutions firm was dealing with a cybersecurity issue.

Local news verified the cyberattack, citing an internal communication from ChipSoft to healthcare facilities about “possible unauthorized access.”

The IT provider allegedly told healthcare organizations that they were taking all possible steps to “minimize the negative effects” and advised disconnecting from their systems while the cleanup was underway.

Yesterday, the national cybersecurity incident response team for healthcare (Z-CERT) announced that a ransomware attack affected ChipSoft.

The agency said they are collaborating with ChipSoft and healthcare institutions to assess the impact and assist in recovery efforts.

As a safety measure, ChipSoft has cut off all connections to its Zorgportaal, HiX Mobile, and Zorgplatform online health services.

While some Dutch media outlets stated that most patient-facing systems are functioning as usual, there have also been numerous reports of these systems being unavailable at certain hospitals.

Confirmed system downtime reports include Sint Jans Gasthuis in Weert, Laurentius in Roermond, VieCuri hospital in Venlo, and Flevo Hospital in Almere.

BleepingComputer has reached out to ChipSoft for additional information regarding the incident, however, we have not received a reply as of press time.

Attacks of this kind on healthcare IT providers can be very damaging and profitable for cybercriminals due to the sensitive data they manage.

Last month, the healthcare IT company CareCloud revealed a data breach that compromised sensitive information and resulted in a service outage that lasted for several hours.

Earlier, in March 2026, TriZetto Provider Solutions, a Cognizant healthcare IT business, experienced a data breach impacting the confidential data of over 3.4 million individuals.
