Microsoft investigates disappearing mouse pointer bug in classic Outlook.

Microsoft has officially acknowledged a bug in classic Outlook for Windows where the mouse pointer disappears when hovering over the application interface.

While the pointer is invisible, it remains active—for instance, emails in your message list will still change color as you hover over them.

Temporary Workarounds

While Microsoft investigates a permanent fix, you can use these methods to restore visibility:

  • Select an Email: Hover over the message list until an email highlights, then click it. This often forces the pointer to reappear.
  • The PowerPoint Trick: Open PowerPoint, click inside any editable text box, and then switch back to Outlook.
  • Mouse Settings: In the Windows Control Panel, navigate to Mouse > Pointer Options and uncheck the box for “Hide pointer while typing”.

Status & Reporting

The Outlook Team is currently investigating and has requested that Microsoft 365 Tenant Admins report the issue and provide diagnostic traces via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to help pinpoint the root cause.
